Preparing for our baby girl...

Now that we are only 2 weeks away from being half way done with this pregnancy, we are coming to realize all that we have to do to prepare for our little girl! I can't decide if baby's are just expensive or I just have really expensive taste?? I think its both! I have been searching like mad for cribs, furniture, baby bedding. Not much luck, or at least not enough money!! I am open for ideas, suggestions, ANYTHING!! People keep telling me to make my own stuff. Which is a great idea, and its not like i don't have the desire to create my little girl's things just no talent!! So the search continues!! Keep your eyes open please!!

I have scowered for patterns for things from bibs and blankets to bedskirts and bumpers...let me know if you want some of them. I have LOVED making stuff, but it does get tiring so give yourself a lot of time!!!

Two things we did that we felt were kinda smart for our situation was get a 4-in-1 crib rather than just a crib. That way it didn't have to be gender neutral or anything because as she grows it grows with her and we don't have to invest in a toddler bed etc. The other thing is that we aren't doing a changing table. They aren't too expensive but you only use them for a bit, then where do you store them and you have to buy a dresser. We had this old old OLD IKEA dresser that we got new knobs for and painted and it looks great. we will just put a changing pad on top. Those were two of our shortcuts.

(SOrry this is a novel but one more thing) We have noticed that bedding falls into two categories. 1-affordable but maybe a little tacky or too matchy matchy and 2-expensive but oh so pretty. I hear things about bumpers and quilts not being safe so I don't even feel like I HAVE to have bedding right now but I can't decorate without picking it out. So annoying!! So I found some quilts I liked at landofnod and they are a little pricey but if I only buy the quilt and bumpers I can get cheap fitted sheets elsewhere or make some and I can easily make a bedskirt. That saved a couple hundred too. GOOD LUCK!

Clothes: Old Navy always has clearance and we just buy sizes ahead and keep them in the closet. It's great.

We found our crib at Burlington Coat Factory and they have very reasonable things. I don't know if there is one in Utah or near you, but if so, check it out.

Don't worry about a crib bumper, they are a hazard and it's good for them to figure it out. So, you just need a sheet, no blanket either, just get sleep sacks. Then they won't smother themselves! Anyway, you just need a sheet and some cute decos for the room.

Best of luck! I'm full of ideas, but don't know what you really want. So, email me if you need more info. emiander@yahoo.com.

It's an exciting time. Have fun!

You don't need much talent (I can say so, because I can do it!!!) and it's so much cheaper! just look for patterns. hahah, i talk like it's from experience. nope, just looking forward to my chance!!! :) GOOD LUCK! take care.

JC Penny has cute cribs, bedding, etc. for a great price. I would suggest getting like the 4 in one cribs, cuz now we have a toddler bed and didn't even have to buy one, they are great!

DON'T MAKE THE BEDDING. I don't want to even admit how much I spent on my niece's bedding. I could have bought atleast TWO expensive bedding for the price I paid in making the bedding. Then again it could have been my expensive taste, but it is less stress and a lot quicker.

Hi Nikki. I know you don't know me, but I'm Holly Flake's sister-in-law. I was reading about your conundrum and thought I'd let you know what we are planning to do for our bedding. I know just what you mean about things being SO expensive. If I could pick out anything and not worry about money, we'd be set but unfortunately, we have a budget. What we did for our bedding is we bought a bumper pad. It's by Glenna Jean and we were lucky enough to find it on sale more than half off. So we got that and we are going to buy the dust ruffle off of a website that allows you to just pick separates. We found neutral sheets at Ross and we'll get a neutral quilt or blanket from Target or somewhere like that. As for a valance, I know some websites let you buy fabric that matches your bedding or in our case bumper pad. We have talked about doing that but some places, it's pretty pricey. I think we'll just buy, once again, neutral valance. I don't know, I hope this helps. We are all about having the room cute, but we don't want to go overboard with spending tons on bedding. Good luck! and Congratulations!

I feel your pain. I had no idea where to begin. After hours and hours of internet surfing I decided to be creative and make the bedding. I'm glad I did. It was way fun and there is so much fabric out there. Then you can make all kinds of accessories. As for all the fun girl stuff. I went to local boutiques and you would be so suprised at all the bows people make. I found way cute stuff!! There are amazing people that make burp clothes, bibs, and blankets. If you want any info email me on work email and I'll get you my number. Either way HAVE FUN!!
